Louis Alexander

The unique learning system on which Direct English is based was developed by the innovative language scholar Louis Alexander.

Born in the United Kingdom in 1932, Louis Alexander was a member of the Council of Europe’s committee on modern language teaching, world-famous English language learning expert and award-winning author.

He sold 4.7 million books during 1977 alone, a feat recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the greatest number of books sold by an individual author in a single year.

  1. Louis Alexander

    Louis Alexander was born in UK and educated at Godalming Grammar School and the University of London.

  2. Council of Europe

    He was a member of the Council of Europe Committee on Modern Language Teaching (1973–78). He developed works for the Council of Europe that have been the bases of many communicative language courses and forms the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

  3. Guiness Book of Records

    He sold 4.7 books. A feet recorded in the Guinness Book of Record as the Greatest number of copies sold by an Individual Author in one Year.

  4. University of Cambridge

    In 1986-88 he was adviser to the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate for the Cambridge Certificate in English for International Communication.

  5. Consultant UNESCO

    He was a consultant for Junior English for China (1988-) on behalf of UNESCO.

  6. Direct English

    Direct English is one of his greatest Masterpiece. Alexander consistently supported the cause of the relatively untrained non-native speaking teacher of English.
